Disney Reveals New Footage of STAR WARS: GALAXY'S EDGE Theme Park Rides[teaser]Disney has released a new behind-the-scenes video for its upcoming Star Wars-themed land set to open at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.[/teaser] The featurette previews two of the main attractions for the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge park, along with comments from Scott Trowbridge (Creative Executive, Disney Imagineering) and Carrie Beck (VP, Lucasfilm Story Group) about the land's immersive features. The first ride, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, will place guests behind the controls of the famed ship that "made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs." As part of the attraction, visitors can participate in one of three unique flight crew roles. Meanwhile, the second ride, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, is designed to thrust guests into an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order. Check out the behind-the-scenes video below! Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is scheduled to open at Disneyland in summer 2019 (check out our prediction on exactly when HERE) and Walt Disney World in fall 2019. The land and its various rides and attractions will allow visitors to "become galactic travelers and live their own Star Wars stories in a galaxy far, far away." Likewise, in addition to the land itself, Disney is also building a complementary Star Wars-themed resort, offering a "fully-immersive, multi-day Star Wars adventure aboard a luxury starship complete with high-end dining, space-view cabins, and exciting action." Beyond the rides and resort, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will also allow fans to explore the planet Batuu, stop by a street market in Black Spire Outpost, try franchise delicacies like blue milk, visit the Cantina, and more -- all while interacting with various creatures and characters from the Star Wars universe. And thankfully, the experience won't be without John Williams' iconic music, as the composer has been tapped to provide new and original Star Wars music for the park. Amazon User Mistakenly Receives Another Customer's Alexa Recordings[teaser]Alexa has been up to no good again.[/teaser] According to reports by NPR, Reuters, and German magazine c't, Amazon mistakenly sent over a thousand Alexa recordings to the wrong user. The tech snafu in question occurred when a German Amazon customer requested access to his archived data (permissible under a European Union data protection law). Amazon then sent the man a download link which included tracked searches on the website, along with a whopping 1,700 recordings made by Alexa... of another customer. The recipient was quite confused to receive the recordings, especially since he apparently does not use or own any Alexa devices. Upon listening to the files, he discovered that they were recordings of complete strangers -- a male and female voice -- making various requests, searches, and other comments. In response to the incident, an Amazon spokesperson told Reuters, "This unfortunate case was the result of a human error and an isolated single case." They continued, "We resolved the issue with the two customers involved and took measures to further optimize our processes. As a precautionary measure we contacted the relevant authorities." This isn't the first time that an Alexa privacy issue has arisen. Back in May, an Amazon Echo mistakenly recorded a Portland family's conversations and then sent them to a person in their contacts list without their knowledge. Though smart speakers and televisions with microphones and voice recognition are becoming increasingly popular additions to many modern households, as Alexa's continued growing pains reveal, we should probably still be very careful about what we say around our appliances. "There is no other product like this on the market, illustrating how LG continues to deliver unique value to consumers." The HU85L offers support for 4K UHD resolution, wide color gamut, and 2,500 ANSI lumens of brightness. And thanks to the unit's Ultra Short Throw tech, the device can project a 90-inch image from just a little more than 2 inches away from a wall or an even larger 120-inch image from 7 inches away. In addition, the projector features a compact design and 12-point keystone adjustment to help remove image distortion. Meanwhile, LG has also implemented ThinQ AI capabilities, offering support for voice commands via the included Magic Remote to control the projector and find content. Likewise, the remote can detect gestures and activate its backlit buttons automatically when it perceives motion. Finally, the projector includes access to streaming services, along with USB, Ethernet, and HDMI connectivity. Netflix Set to Expand Original Film Production for 2019[teaser]The streaming giant is set to release even more original movies next year.[/teaser] According to a report by The New York Times, Netflix is planning to expand its lineup of original films for 2019, with resources in place to release as many as 90 titles throughout the year. Under the guidance of Scott Stuber, Head of Original Films at Netflix, the company is pushing forward with its strategy to bring the streaming platform's original movie output more in line with its massive collection of original TV series. Set to go toe-to-toe with Hollywood, the service is prepared to offer 55 new live-action narrative films in 2019, with about 35 marked for budgets of up to $20 million and about 20 marked for budgets of $20 million to $200 million. Coupled with animated and documentary movies, Netflix's original film lineup for 2019 could reach around 90 titles -- a rather staggering number considering many major Hollywood studios, like Universal, only release about 30 films per year. In 2018, Netflix released several original prestige films on its platform from major industry talent, including The Coen Brothers' The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and Alfonso Curaon's Roma. Limited theatrical windows have also been employed simultaneously with or right before the movies' streaming debuts in order to qualify them for awards consideration. In 2019, this trend will likely continue with a series of releases from Hollywood filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, Dee Rees, Guillermo del Toro, Noah Baumbach, and Michael Bay. A current Netflix subscription starts at $11 per month for HD streaming and $14 per month for Ultra HD streaming. Samsung Unveils 2019 "The Frame" & "SERIF" 4K QLED Lifestyle TVs[teaser]The latest models will be on display at CES 2019.[/teaser] Samsung has revealed first details for its upcoming 2019 lineup of Lifestyle displays. The collection will include new versions of "The Frame" and "SERIF" TVs. "The traditional TV was only focused on technical features, such as picture quality and performance, but now TVs are also a lifestyle platform that blends in consumers’ daily life," said Jongsuk Choo, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "This year's models of The Frame and SERIF TV are enhanced lifestyle TVs that deliver a TV experience like nothing before." Emphasizing premium design, The Frame is a display built to look like a picture frame hanging on a user's wall when not in use as a TV. When in Art Mode, The Frame can display digital pieces of artwork, including paintings and pictures instead of fading to black like a traditional television. In addition, the device's Luminance Sensor can adjust colors on-screen to match the ambient brightness of a user's room. Over 1,000 pieces of art will be available via the TV's Art Store, offering access to newly added selections from the Uffizi Galleries in Italy, the Van Gogh Museum in The Netherlands, Te Papa in New Zealand, and more. And beyond aesthetic perks, 2019 models will also utilize QLED panels and Bixby AI, offering improved contrast and 100% color volume, along with voice control and extensive smart TV functions. Meanwhile, The SERIF TV was developed in collaboration with designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec to fit into a user's home like a piece of furniture. The display features an unconventional design that resembles a capital "I" when viewed in profile, complete with a small, shelf-like surface at the top. And like the new Frame models, the 2019 SERIF TVs will also use QLED technology to offer improved picture performance. In addition, the displays will include support for Samsung's Ambient Mode as well. Unlike previous models, which were only sold in furniture and department stores, the 2019 lineup will be available for purchase from electronics retailers as well. The new Frame and SERIF TVs will be on display at CES 2019 in Las Vegas from January 8-11. Source: SamsungPosted Tue Dec 18, 2018 at 06:00 PM PST by: -
