ATI Adds Auro-3D, Dolby Atmos & DTS:X Support for High Performance Audio Brands[teaser]The audio company is integrating next generation surround sound tech into its products. [/teaser] ATI (Amplifier Technologies Inc.) has announced that it will be offering support for the Auro-3D format in several upcoming preamp/processors marketed under ATI's Theta Digital, ATI and B&K brands. In addition, the company has also announced audio components that will support the object-based Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound technologies. "ATI has always been at the forefront of audio innovation, and we believe that Auro-3D® represents the next generation in audio, taking sound into the third dimension. I'm delighted that this partnership agreement with Auro Technologies will allow us to offer the Auro-3D® experience to our customers," said Morris Kessler, President and Chief Designer of ATI. Auro-3D is a surround sound format that aims to create a three dimensional soundfield by adding height and top layers to a traditional ear-level speaker setup. The format uses standard 5.1 and 7.1 speaker configurations as a base and then allows customers to add height speakers above their corner speakers at around 30 degrees. Likewise, if space permits, Auro-3D also supports ceiling-mounted speakers. New ATI products with Auro-3D support have not been announced yet, but support will be integrated into the company's recently detailed Theta Digital Casablanca IVa and Casablanca V Music and Cinema Controllers. Both devices also support Dolby Atmos and are DTS:X ready as well. The Casablanca IVa will launch in the second quarter of 2015 for a suggested retail price of $17,995. The Casablanca V will be available in the third quarter of 2015 for a suggested retail price of $21,995. Sources: TWICE, Auro-3D, Theta DigitalPosted Thu Feb 12, 2015 at 05:30 PM PST by: -

DISH Promises at Least $250 in Savings for DirecTV Customers Who Switch Satellite Services[teaser]The company's latest promotion is targeting DirecTV subscribers. [/teaser] DISH has announced a new promotion that guarantees at least $250 in savings for customers who switch to their service from DirecTV. The campaign will run through April 8. "Consumers' purchase decisions are often closely tied to value, and our new campaign highlights DISH's undeniable advantage in price plus technology over DirecTV," said James Moorhead, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "With DISH, customers get the same channels, shows and the sports they love, and we save them hundreds in their first year. When combined with the industry's most awarded DVR, the Hopper, choosing DISH becomes an easy decision." Samsung Commits $3.6 Billion for OLED Smartphone & Tablet Display Production[teaser]The Korean manufacturer will allocate more money into OLED panel development. [/teaser] According to a report from Reuters, Samsung plans to invest $3.6 billion into OLED display production. The investment will be made from 2015 to 2017 in an effort to increase component sales in the wake of declining smartphone profits. The OLED production will primarily feature medium and small sized panels designed for tablets and smartphones, with the goal to manufacture components for Samsung devices and third party products from other companies. The initial production line will likely focus on curved OLED panels, such as the screen featured on Samsung's Galaxy Note Edge. While the company has reaffirmed its commitment to mobile OLED panels, Samsung still has no plans for more large-screen OLED televisions. OLED displays are currently used on several Samsung smartphones and tablets, including the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and the Galaxy Tab S 10.5. Meanwhile, rival manufacturer LG is also rumored to be investing more money in OLED production. According to the Yonhap News Agency, the company is expected to invest about 1 trillion won this year to bolster its large-screen OLED development.
