Sprint Readies LG G Flex 2 Curved-Screen OLED Smartphone for March 13 Release[teaser]LG's curved full HD smartphone will be available in March. [/teaser] Sprint has announced a release date for the LG G Flex 2. The mobile handset will be available through the carrier on March 14 for an off-contract SRP of $504. The smartphone features dynamically curved layers across the front, back, sides and top-to-bottom edges at a radius of 400mm to 700mm, allowing it to conform better to a user's face. The 5.5-inch P-OLED screen offers a full HD resolution of 1920x1080 with 403ppi. Under the hood, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 2.0GHz 64-bit Octa-Core CPU, Adreno 430 GPU, 2GB DDR4 RAM, and an integrated 3,000mAh battery all running Android 5.0. Rumored Samsung 4K SUHD TV Prices & Details Revealed, Models Start at $2,499[teaser]Pricing for Samsung's upcoming SUHD TV lineup has been leaked. [/teaser] According to a report from HD Guru, prices and details have been unveiled for Samsung's latest 4K Ultra HD TVs. The new lineup, dubbed SUHD, features nano-crystal technology (also called quantum dots), expanded colors, and high dynamic range picture. The flagship JS9500 series is expected to offer full-array local dimming, HDR tech with 1000 nit peak brightness, and expanded color with a 10 bit curved panel. Meanwhile, the JS9000 series will also use a curved-screen and include similar features, but with edge-lit dimming instead of full-array. Finally, the JS8500 series is expected to offer comparable features to the JS9000 series but with a traditional flat-screen design. Samsung & LG Top 2014 LCD Shipments[teaser]The two Korean manufacturers hold the top two spots for most LCD TV shipments in 2014. [/teaser] According to a report from WitsView, Samsung was the top brand for LCD TV shipments in 2014. LG followed in second place and Sony was a distant third. Samsung was responsible for 22.8 percent of the LCD TV market share in 2014, holding the same number one position from last year. The company previously held 21 percent of the market in 2013. Meanwhile, LG was in second place with 14.9 percent, up from 13.7 percent the previous year when it also held the number two slot. Sony saw an increase as well, growing from 6.4 percent in 2013 to 6.8 percent in 2014 while also moving into the number three position, replacing TCL who held that spot in 2013. The rest of the top ten are mostly made up of Chinese manufacturers including Hisense, but 2014 also saw American company VIZIO take the number eight spot with 3.5 percent of the market. Overall LCD TV shipments were also up, revealing an annual growth of 5.4 percent with about 215 million LCD TV units shipped throughout the year. 2015 is also poised to be a big year for LCDs, as both Samsung and LG recently revealed several upcoming Ultra HD models with new technology and features like quantum dots, HDR, and expanded colors. NBC Brings Live TV Streaming to Android & iOS Devices[teaser]The network has extended its live streaming service to mobile gear. [/teaser] Expanding upon its previously available live internet feed for computers, NBC has added a live streaming option to its iOS and Android apps. The live mobile feature is now available for customers with a supported cable or satellite company. Sling TV Bolsters Live & On-Demand Movie Content with EPIX Channel Lineup[teaser]More movie channels are coming to the recently launched internet TV service. [/teaser] Sling has announced a new agreement with EPIX that will bring more channels and VOD options to the online streaming television platform. The deal includes EPIX, EPIX2, EPIX3 and EPIX Drive-In plus. "Our customers crave the newest movies like 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' and 'Transformers: Age of Extinction,' but they also have a growing appetite for the classics and EPIX delivers both," said Roger Lynch, CEO of Sling TV. "Sling TV will feature EPIX's linear channels and movies on-demand in an add-on package that is accessible and affordable." In addition to the live EPIX channels, the new deal also includes more than 2,000 on-demand movie and entertainment titles. An exact launch date and pricing plan for the EPIX content will be announced in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the current core Sling TV package includes ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, ABC Family, CNN, El Rey, and Galavision for $20 per month. In addition, the company will soon offer AMC as part of the same package as well. The service also provides select on-demand content and unique media from Maker Studios, and customers can opt to expand their lineup with three add-on packs for an additional $5 each per month. VLC Media Player Readies Chromecast Streaming Support[teaser]The latest version of the popular media player is set to offer Chromecast support. [/teaser] According to a changelog posted by VLC, VideoLan is prepping a Chromecast streaming option for the upcoming release of VLC 3.0. The free, open-source media player offers robust playback support for virtually any video and audio file type. Once Chromecast support is added, VLC users will be able to cast various media files to their TVs from computers and mobile devices through the streaming dongle. In addition to the Chromecast feature, VLC 3.0 is also expected to offer more upgrades and improvements, including expanded support for YouTube's VP9 video codec. The new format is being used for 4K Ultra HD streaming. An exact release date for VLC 3.0 with Chromecast support has not been announced yet. The current version of VLC is available for free on PCs, Macs, Linux, and Android devices. An iOS app was recently suspended but support is expected to return soon.
