HBO NOW Standalone Streaming Service Officially Announced for Apple Devices, April Launch at $15 per Month[teaser]HBO's standalone streaming service has finally been detailed. [/teaser] HBO has officially announced an April release date for its highly anticipated HBO NOW streaming service. The standalone digital platform will launch exclusively on Apple devices and PCs just in time for the season five premiere of 'Game of Thrones.' "HBO NOW is the next phase of innovation at HBO," said Richard Plepler, Chairman and CEO, HBO. "With this new partnership, a natural evolution for the network, we have access to millions of Apple customers who are used to getting their favorite apps immediately. Now, they can do the same with an HBO subscription." iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV customers will be able to purchase HBO NOW as an app through their devices in April. The service allows users to watch every episode of every season of HBO’s original programming, hit movies, documentaries, sports and exclusive comedy specials separate from a traditional cable or satellite subscription for $14.99 a month. HBO NOW subscribers can also watch HBO content at HBONOW.com on their PCs. "HBO NOW offers a new generation of HBO fans many of the best TV programs in the world without a cable or satellite subscription," said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "Now, with the same simplicity as buying an app, customers can subscribe to HBO NOW and instantly start viewing their favorite HBO programs as they air—this is huge." HBO NOW will launch on iOS devices, the Apple TV, and PCs next month to coincide with the April 12 premiere of 'Game of Thrones.' In addition, HBO will offer a 30-day introductory free trial period to new HBO NOW customers who sign up through Apple. Support for more devices may be added at a later date. In addition, reports indicate that this model will be able to detect HDR and wide color meta-data from upcoming 4K streaming and Ultra HD Blu-ray sources, allowing it to properly display enhanced content in full detail. Key Features: Full-array local dimming, expanded colors, high dynamic range Price: TBA Release: TBA 65-inch Curved-Screen OLED Ultra HD TV – LG remains the only TV manufacturer currently committed to OLED technology, but Panasonic is reportedly considering its own OLED 4K model -- and it could even be released later this year. NBC Reportedly Developing Comedy Streaming Service[teaser]The network is planning to launch a comedy subscription streaming platform. [/teaser] According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, NBCUniversal is prepping a new standalone digital video service. The proposed streaming platform will be dedicated to comedy programming in an effort to attract young cord-cutters. Potential content could include full episodes of NBC comedy series and talk shows like 'Saturday Night Live' and 'The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,' as well as a library of media from outside NBC. In addition, the service could also include original series for subscribers and exclusive extra content from the network's TV stars. A $2.50 to $3.50 monthly subscription fee is being discussed, but firm pricing has not been decided. NBC is also considering similar genre themed streaming services for horror, family, and faith based content. With that said, so far it is only moving forward with a comedy platform. Official details, supported devices, and a release window for NBC's rumored comedy streaming service have not been announced yet. If the platform does launch, it will join an increasing number of subscription based cord-cutting services, including Sling TV, CBS All Access, and the upcoming HBO Now.
