ACCESSORIES: ANTENNAS, TUNERS, STREAMERS, & POWER In addition to size, scope, and surround sound, consider building redundancies into your Super Bowl Party system (a lesson I learned the hard way several Bowls ago). If satellite/cable are not an option, a streaming media player with the FOX Sports GO app is also a great way to catch the game. Likewise, your internet, cable, or satellite service could go down at any time, so it's a smart idea to add an HDTV antenna and a backup power supply. Further, it's important to remember many projectors, as well as VIZIO Ultra HD Home Theater Displays, do NOT include an internal OTA HDTV tuner. Meaning, you can't just add an antenna to the mix, but instead need an external tuner. The great news is that there are a TON of options for this, including no-feature budget external tuners, to full DVR-equipped boxes. Amazon Greenlights Streaming Series Based on Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett's 'Good Omens'[teaser]A new limited streaming series based on the acclaimed novel has been announced.[/teaser] Amazon has greenlit its latest original show, 'Good Omens.' The upcoming hour-long limited comedy series is based on Neil Gaiman ('American Gods') and Terry Pratchett’s ('Colour of Magic') novel of the same name. "Spanning not only the universe but also the entirety of time, Neil Gaiman has created a story that may be the largest ever told on television," said Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama, Amazon Studios. "We're excited to be working with BBC Studios to bring Neil's and Terry Pratchett's incredible book to life and to Prime members everywhere." Good Omens takes place in 2018 when the Apocalypse is near and Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity. According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, and tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon—both of whom have lived amongst Earth's mortals since The Beginning and have grown rather fond of the lifestyle—are not actually looking forward to the coming war. And…someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist. Neil Gaiman will serve as writer and Showrunner for the six-part series. BBC Studios is co-producing the show with Narrativia and The Blank Corporation and in association with BBC Worldwide for Amazon Prime Video and the BBC. An exact release date has not been announced yet, but the series will debut globally through Prime Video in 2018, followed by a broadcast run through the BBC in the UK. A current Amazon Prime subscription costs $99 per year or $11 per month. Likewise, Prime Instant Video is available as a standalone service for $9 per month. Amazon Snags Grateful Dead Documentary 'Long Strange Trip' from Executive Producer Martin Scorsese[teaser]The music documentary is coming to Prime Video.[/teaser] Amazon has announced the acquisition of 'Long Strange Trip.' The four-hour Grateful Dead documentary comes from director Amir Bar-Lev ('The Tillman Story') and executive producer Martin Scorsese ('Silence'). "I first reached out to the Grateful Dead about this film back in 2003," said Bar-Lev. "Since then, everyone who has come aboard has treated this project with a renegade spirit of cooperation and ingenuity worthy of the subject matter. I recognized immediately that Amazon was the perfect distributor when I met their team, and I can't wait to see how many brains they can infect with the Dead’s contagious brand of anti-establishment fun." The 30-year odyssey of the Grateful Dead was the most unlikely success story in rock and roll history. Famously averse to publicity, seemingly incapable of recording radio-friendly hits, they flouted music-industry convention by giving their live music away to a global network of tape traders, becoming the highest-grossing concert act in America on word of mouth alone. Executive produced by Scorsese (Silence), Long Strange Trip is the first full-length documentary to explore the fiercely independent vision, insistence on continuous innovation, and uncompromising commitment to their audience that propelled the original jam band from a Bay Area pizza parlor to the ranks of the most enduringly influential musicians of their generation. By assembling candid interviews with the band, road crew, family members, and notable Deadheads, director Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story) unearths the untold history of the Dead and the freewheeling psychedelic subculture that sprouted up around it, while providing poignant insight into the psyche of late lead guitarist Jerry Garcia, who disdained leadership of the increasingly sprawling collective organization that kept the show on the road. With a soundtrack that captures some of the band's most dynamic live performances as well as unguarded moments offstage and never before seen footage and photos, Long Strange Trip is an epic exploration into a uniquely American experiment in radically eclectic music-making that continues to earn the passionate loyalty of generations of fans worldwide. "I've always admired the spirit and creativity of the Grateful Dead," said Scorsese. “They are revolutionary artists who forever changed the world of touring and recording live music. They were a cultural force—a lifestyle, that continue to influence new generations of fans. This film will entertain and educate audiences about one of the most innovative and groundbreaking American bands of the 20th century." 'Long Strange Trip' will start streaming through Amazon Prime Video in the US and UK as a six-part documentary on May 26. A current Amazon Prime subscription costs $99 per year or $11 per month. Likewise, Prime Instant Video is available as a standalone service for $9 per month. Source: AmazonPosted Thu Jan 19, 2017 at 07:30 AM PST by: -

James Frain Joins Cast of 'Star Trek: Discovery,' Streaming Premiere Delayed[teaser]The upcoming streaming series has announced a new cast member.[/teaser] CBS has announced the addition of James Frain to the cast of 'Star Trek: Discovery.' Though the series was set to start streaming through CBS All Access in May, the premiere has now been pushed to an unspecified future date. Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns to television 50 years after it first premiered with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. FOX Sports GO App Set to Offer Free Super Bowl LI Livestream[teaser]The big game will be available to stream for free.[/teaser] Fox has announced plans to offer a free, non-authenticated livestream of Super Bowl LI through its FOX Sports GO app. The game is set to kick off on February 5. "As part of the buildup to this year's Super Bowl, we're committed to creating the best possible experience for fans by dramatically expanding the ways and places in which they can watch the game," said FOX Sports President, COO and Executive Producer Eric Shanks. "Our pioneering collaboration with our affiliates to allow streaming local ad insertions will make commercials even more relevant for viewers and help make this year’s game even more of a personal experience for every fan." Super Bowl LI will be available to stream for free without an authenticated pay-TV service through the FOX Sports GO app on iOS, Android, Windows, and Amazon tablets or through connected devices like the Apple TV, Roku, Android TV, Chromecast, Amazon Fire, and XBOX One. Likewise, the stream will be offered through FOXSportsGo.com as well. And in addition to the game itself, the livestream will also include local advertisement integration on a nationwide basis from more than 170 FOX affiliates around the country -- ensuring that digital viewers don't have to miss out on any of the night's big Super Bowl commercials. "We're excited that this year's Super Bowl will showcase the unique relationship of FOX and its local affiliates which allows us to collaborate on innovations such as this," said Brian Jones, EVP & COO of Nexstar Broadcasting Group, and Chairman of the FOX Affiliates Board of Governors. "An incredible 170 affiliates from all around the U.S., including 22 stations that Nexstar owns or provides services to, opted to participate in this first-of-its-kind digital ad insertion for the Super Bowl, allowing us to promote our local affiliate brands and reach viewers on a national scale. We look forward to more groundbreaking collaborations with FOX in the future." Super Bowl LI will begin at 6:30 PM ET on Sunday, February 5 in Houston, Texas.
