Jerry Seinfeld's 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' Heads to Netflix[teaser]The streaming series is moving from Crackle to Netflix.[/teaser] Netflix has announced a new multi-faceted production deal with Jerry Seinfeld. As part of the agreement, new episodes of Seinfeld's 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' will start streaming exclusively through Netflix in late 2017, along with the show's collection of previous episodes. In addition, the comedian will film two, all-new stand-up shows exclusively for Netflix, and will also help develop scripted and non-scripted comedy programming for the streaming platform. "Jerry is known the world over as both a great TV innovator and beloved comic voice," said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. "We are incredibly proud to welcome him to the Netflix comedy family." 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee' features Seinfeld as he joins various friends for a cup of coffee and a drive in a classic car, sharing stories along the way. The show originated on the Crackle streaming service but will make the jump to Netflix later this year. 24 new episodes are set to premiere in installments starting in late 2017, followed by subsequent episodes in 2018 and beyond. In addition, the series' previous 59 episodes will also move exclusively to Netflix. "When I first started thinking about Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, the entire Netflix business model consisted of mailing out DVDs in envelopes. I love that we are now joining together, both at very different points," said Seinfeld, who produces, directs and hosts the show. "I am also very excited to be working with Ted Sarandos at Netflix, a guy and a place that not only have the same enthusiasm for the art of stand up comedy as I do, but the most amazing technology platform to deliver it in a way that has never existed before. VIZIO Adds Google Home Voice Control Support to SmartCast Devices[teaser]The company's SmartCast lineup now offers support for Google Home voice control.[/teaser] VIZIO has announced the addition of Google Home support to its collection of SmartCast displays, TVs, soundbars, and speakers. With Google Home compatibility and Chromecast built-in tech, SmartCast owners can now use their voice-activated Google Home speakers to control their SmartCast products. "Controlling VIZIO SmartCast devices from Google Home is a significant milestone for consumers and their ability to manage their entertainment experience," said Matt McRae, Chief Technology Officer, VIZIO. "Using a simple voice command to stream a movie from Netflix to a VIZIO display or stream music from Spotify to a group of VIZIO speakers is an eye-opening experience and shows off the power of VIZIO SmartCast." Google Home is a voice-activated speaker powered by Google Assistant. When used in conjunction with supported VIZIO SmartCast devices, customers can now speak simple voice commands to play, stop, skip, and control volume for music tracks from any Google Home supported services playing through their SmartCast products. To hear a song through a supported SmartCast speaker or soundbar, customers simply need to say, "Ok Google" followed by the music request from Google Play Music, Pandora, Spotify, and more. In addition, Google Home owners can also power on their SmartCast displays simply by asking to play content on the big screen when the "Quick Start Power Mode" option is enabled on their VIZIO SmartCast TV/displays. Outside of new Google Home support, the VIZIO SmartCast lineup allows users to control their VIZIO SmartCast devices from any room in the home and stream content from their mobile devices straight to their big screen using the SmartCast app. SmartCast users can also search and browse content by genre across multiple apps at once. Roku Updates Mobile App with Improved Navigation & New Features[teaser]A new version of the Roku mobile app has been released.[/teaser] Roku has announced an update for its Android and iOS mobile app. Version 4.0 includes a new look, improved navigation, a new "What's On" tab, and more. With the Roku mobile app for Android and iOS devices, customers can use their phones as a remote control, plug in headphones for private listening, search for movies, shows and more with a keyboard or their voice, and share their own videos, music, and photos to their TVs. The update includes a new navigation bar on the bottom of the app, allowing users to access streaming channels, browse What's On, use the remote, or share photos and videos to a TV with just one tap. Likewise, the app offers a scrollable view of streaming channels when launched, giving one tap access to installed services. In addition, Roku has added a new "What's On" tab with a hand-picked selection of entertainment available to rent, buy or watch for free. Finally, the app also features an improved on screen remote control design that is now more similar to the layout of a Roku device remote. The 2017 collection includes the Procision Series DLA-X970R, DLA-X770R, and DLA-X570R, and the Reference Series DLA-RS620, DLA-RS520, and DLA-RS420. DISH Launches DTS Play-Fi Multi-Room Music Support for Hopper DVRs[teaser]Multi-room music support is coming to Hopper DVRs.[/teaser] DISH has announced the launch of DISH Music. The new feature brings multi-room music support powered by DTS Play-Fi tech to Hopper DVRs. "The Hopper is capable of serving as a household's comprehensive entertainment hub," said Niraj Desai, DISH vice president of product management. "Incorporating DTS Play-Fi technology into our offerings provides DISH customers with a premium whole-home music streaming option, in addition to the television experience they already love, at no additional cost." With DISH Music, Hopper DVR owners can now sync music throughout their homes. The feature supports content from several popular streaming sources, including iHeartRadio, Pandora, TIDAL, Deezer, Napster, and Amazon Music, enabling users to enjoy multi-room music through TV audio systems connected to a Hopper 2 DVR, Hopper 3 DVR, or Joey client. DISH Music allows Hopper DVRs and Joeys to become music streaming zones that are controllable through Android and iOS mobile devices or directly from an app on the set-top boxes. Users can then choose to sync the same music across multiple rooms, or play different tracks in each zone.
