Chromecast Support Added to Simple.TV[teaser]The streaming DVR device can now send content to a Chromecast. [/teaser] Simple.TV has announced an update to its iOS and Android apps for its streaming DVR box. The revised apps now allow users to stream live and recorded over-the-air broadcast content to a Google Chromecast. The Simple.TV by SiliconDust features a dual tuner with an HDTV Antenna Input, a ClearQAM Cable Input, an Ethernet connection, and a USB 2.0 connection for recording media to external storage. Through supported iOS, Android, and PC/Mac apps, you can stream live TV, record shows, and then watch them anywhere. The DVR's TV server capabilities allow for live and recorded streaming to up to 5 devices at the same time, and the dual tuner makes it possible to watch one show and record another simultaneously. The new Chromecast support joins previously supported devices like the Roku 3 and Apple TV. In addition to the updated apps, the company has also launched an offline viewing mode for the device, giving users the option to transfer recorded content to a PC or Mac. AT&T Reveals Pre-Order Details for ASUS PadFone X[teaser]Pricing and availability have been revealed for the innovative smartphone that can convert into a tablet. [/teaser] AT&T has finally unveiled a price and release window for the upcoming ASUS PadFone X. The smartphone that can dock into a tablet will be available for pre-order starting on June 6. "We are proud to add the innovative ASUS PadFone X to AT&T's leading device portfolio," said Jeff Bradley, senior vice president – Devices, AT&T. "PadFone X provides tremendous value and flexibility to consumers. It combines a powerful smartphone with a 9-inch PadFone station and runs on the network that covers more than 99 percent of all Americans." In its smartphone form, the PadFone X features a 5-inch 1080p display with 441PPI. When the phone is docked into the included PadFone Station tablet shell, the device features a 9-inch 1920x1200 display with 252PPI. The PadFone X is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3Ghz quad-core CPU, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of memory running Android 4.4. The phone uses a 2,300mAh battery and the PadFone Station uses a 4,990mAh battery. A 13MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera are included on the smartphone as well, and a 1MP front camera is integrated into the tablet. Support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and AT&T's LTE-Advanced Network is also included. Denon Announces In-Command A/V Receivers[teaser]The upcoming receiver lineup will feature HDMI 2.0 and 4K passthrough. [/teaser] Joining its previously announced S-Series, Denon has now detailed another new collection of 2014 A/V receivers -- the updated In-Command line. The series will include the AVR-X1100W, AVR-X2100W, and AVR-X3100W. The AVR-X1100W is rated for 7x80 watts into 8 ohms from 20Hz to 20kHz. Meanwhile, the AVR-X2100W is rated at 7x95 watts, and the AVR-X3100W is rated for 7x105 watts. All three models feature HDMI 2.0 connections with 60Hz 4K Ultra HD passthrough and support for the 21:9 aspect ratio. Likewise, each receiver also offers integrated DLNA networking, AirPlay, and Internet radio options. Finally, the AVR-X3100W adds DTS Neo:X and Dolby Pro Logic IIz multichannel post processing and Audyssey Dynamic Surround Expansion technology. Denon is expected to start shipping the AVR-X1100W ($499) and AVR-X2100W ($699) in June. The AVR-X3100W ($999) will follow in July. NFL Now Heads to Streaming Devices[teaser]The NFL's digital video service is set to launch on several streaming platforms. [/teaser] The NFL has announced new distribution deals with Amazon and Roku to bring its NFL Now service to the Amazon Fire TV, Kindle Fire tablets, and Roku devices like the Roku 3 and Roku Streaming Stick. The two companies join previously announced partners Microsoft, Verizon, and Yahoo, NFL Now is the National Football League's upcoming online digital video service. The internet-connected network will offer personalized content to football fans, giving users access to customizable news, analysis and highlights. In addition, the service will also provide live events, press conferences, shows and an extensive library of on-demand NFL media including NFL Films content. "We are thrilled that NFL Now will be available for Amazon Fire TV and Kindle Fire customers ahead of the 2014 NFL season," said Mike George, Vice President, Amazon Appstore and Games. LG Offers OLED Price Drop[teaser]LG has once again reduced the price of its flagship 55-inch OLED display. [/teaser] After making its debut in July of 2013 at a $15,000 price point, LG has been gradually cutting the cost of its curved-screen 55-inch OLED HDTV. The price was first reduced to $6,999 back in February, and now the 55EA9800 will retail for $4,999, a whopping 67 percent discount off of its initial price. The 55EA9800 uses a 1080p OLED (organic light-emitting diode) curved-screen panel which offers superior contrast and black levels over traditional LCD technology. The set also features 3D capabilities, LG's proprietary WRGB four-color pixel system, THX certified picture, and Smart TV functions. Finally, the display comes complete with four 3D glasses and is ENERGY STAR certified. In addition to the curved-screen model, LG is also selling the 55EA8800 flat-screen OLED for $5,499. Though Sony recently announced plans to abandon its OLED development and Samsung has no new models on the horizon, LG has continued to pledge support for the technology, promising several new displays in 2014. Toshiba Introduces Encore 2 Tablets[teaser]The company has announced two new affordable Windows tablet models. [/teaser] Toshiba has detailed a new addition to its tablet lineup, the Encore 2. Serving as the successor to the previously released Encore tablet, the upcoming Encore 2 will be available in 8-inch and 10-inch versions and will run Windows 8.1. The Encore 2 is powered by an Intel Atom Z3735F quad-core CPU, 1GB or 2GB RAM options, and 32GB or 64GB storage options. Both the 8-inch and 10-inch models feature a 1280x800 IPS display, and each tablet includes an integrated 5MP rear camera and a 1.2MP front camera. In addition, the Encore 2 also offers a MicroSD slot, WiFi support, and Bluetooth capabilities. Finally, the 10-inch model will include a micro HDMI port and an optional keyboard attachment as well. LG Reveals G3 Smartphone[teaser]The 5.5-inch Quad HD smartphone has been fully detailed. [/teaser] After months of speculation, LG has finally unveiled its latest flagship smartphone. As previous rumors suggested, the G3 will indeed feature a Quad HD display along with other impressive specs and a focus on improved user experiences. "The smartest innovation in a fast evolving smartphone market is creating harmony between advanced technology and a simplified user experience," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
