Coming Soon to Streaming: THE BOYS, GLOW, and More[teaser]Check out our latest crop of streaming news and trailers.[/teaser] Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Hulu have released new previews and info for several of their upcoming shows and films. Here's a full rundown of titles scheduled to arrive on each service: The Boys (Amazon Prime Video, July 27) - Supes have been committing atrocities, which keep getting swept under the rug because they are revered by the adoring public. Billy Butcher recruits The Boys who have all been wronged by The Seven, the world’s most notorious superheroes, to bring them down and stop the corruption. Based on the best-selling comics by Garth Ennis, The Boys is a revenge story where the nobodies take on the somebodies. ANIMA (Netflix, June 27) - In a short musical film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Thom Yorke of Radiohead scores and stars in a mind-bending visual piece. Best played loud. In addition to streaming on Netflix, ANIMA is also set to premiere in select IMAX theaters. Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room (Netflix, July 1) - Everyone's favorite single mom is back with her second Netflix original stand-up special Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room, launching globally on July 1. A follow-up to her 2017 special In Trouble, Katherine toured Glitter Room across the UK with an unprecedented four-week run at London’s Garrick Theatre in the West End. After dividing The Belasco Theater audience on their love or dislike of the Kardashians, Katherine showcases her skillful and hilarious storytelling style with tales about following a man to Japan and meeting her daughter's first celebrity crush, Anna Kendrick. Point Blank (Netflix, July 12) - When his pregnant wife is kidnapped and held as collateral, Paul, an ER nurse, must team with the badly injured career criminal and murder suspect under his charge in order to save the lives of his wife and unborn child. Pitted against rival gangs and a deadly ring of corrupt cops, the unlikely duo find a way to survive together in the fight of their lives. A gritty, action-packed thriller starring Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo. Dear White People - Vol. 3 (Netflix, August 2) - Set against the backdrop of a predominantly white Ivy League university where racial tensions bubble just below the surface, Dear White People is an hilarious send-up of “post-racial” America that weaves together the universal story of finding one’s own identity and forging a wholly unique path. The satirical series -- which picks up where the acclaimed 2014 film by the same name left off – follows a group of Winchester University’s students of color as they navigate a diverse landscape of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness (or lack thereof) and sometimes misguided activism in the millennial age. Through an absurdist lens, Dear White People utilizes biting irony, self-deprecation and sometimes brutal honesty to hold up a mirror to the issues plaguing society today, all the while leading with laughter. GLOW: Season 3 (Netflix, August 9) - Inspired by the short-lived but beloved show from the 80s, GLOW tells the fictional story of Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie), an out-of-work, struggling actress in 1980s Los Angeles who finds one last chance for stardom when she’s thrust into the glitter and spandex world of women's wrestling. In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan (Betty Gilpin) a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life is not what it seems. And at the wheel is Sam Sylvia (Marc Maron), a washed-up, B-movie director who now must lead this group of women on the journey to wrestling stardom. Élite: Season 2 (Netflix, September 2019) - Las Encinas, the best and most exclusive school in Spain where the elite send their children to study, is also where three working class kids have just been admitted after their academy was destroyed by an earthquake and the local council divided up the students between the different schools in the area. The clash between those who have everything and those who have nothing to lose creates the perfect storm that ultimately ends in a murder. Who is behind the crime? Sintonia (Netflix, Coming Soon) - In the quest to be somebody, many paths will converge. Told through three different characters' perspectives, the story of Sintonia explores the interconnection of the music, drug traffic, and religion in São Paulo. Criminal (Netflix, Fall 2019) - A cat-and-mouse drama, which focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects. Comprising 12 stories set in four different countries (UK, France, Germany, and Spain), each takes place within the confines of a police interview suite. Into the Dark: Culture Shock (Hulu, July 4) - Told in Spanish and English, this thriller follows a young Mexican woman in pursuit of the American Dream, who crosses illegally into the United States, only to find herself in an American nightmare. - A current Amazon Prime subscription costs $119 per year or $13 per month. Likewise, Prime Instant Video is available as a standalone service for $9 per month. - A current Netflix subscription starts at $13 per month for HD streaming and $16 per month for Ultra HD streaming. - A current Hulu subscription starts at $6 per month with commercials. In addition, ad-free playback is available for $12 per month and Live TV bundle is available for $45. Toshiba Releases New Fire TV Edition Display with Dolby Vision[teaser]The first Fire TV Edition with Dolby Vision support has been released.[/teaser] Toshiba has launched its latest Fire TV Edition display, the 55LF711U20. The new 55-inch model adds support for the Dolby Vision high dynamic range format. Fire TV Edition smart TVs feature integrated support for the Amazon Fire TV platform, offering access to a variety of streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, HBO, PlayStation Vue, Hulu, and more. Likewise, the displays also provide easy access to live over-the-air TV content when paired with a separate HD antenna. In addition, units include a Voice Remote with Alexa support, allowing customers to launch apps, search for content, switch inputs, control smart home devices, and more through spoken commands. Hands-free control is also supported via a separate Alexa device, like an Amazon Echo or Echo dot. Under the hood, the 55LF711U20 is powered by a quad-core CPU/Multi-core GPU, and includes dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity and three HDMI inputs. Likewise, the TV supports new Alexa skills and automatic over-the-air software updates. The LCD panel features a 4K Ultra HD resolution of 3840 x 2160 and a 60 Hz refresh rate. And beyond standard HDR10 support, the new 55LF711U20 model also includes Dolby Vision compatibility. Dolby Vision is a proprietary end-to-end High Dynamic Range (HDR) format. The process uses expanded brightness to improve contrast between dark and light aspects of an image, bringing out deeper black levels and more realistic details in specular highlights -- like the sun reflecting off of an ocean -- in specially graded Dolby Vision material. In addition, the Dolby Vision process takes advantage of dynamic metadata, allowing it to adjust brightness levels on a scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame basis to create a more accurate HDR experience compared to static metadata formats like HDR10. The Toshiba 55-inch 55LF711U20 Fire TV Edition is now available for $449.99. In addition, 43-inch and 50-inch models are set to launch later this month.
