Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling (Netflix, August 9) - After being in space for around 20 years, Rocko and his friends attempt to conform to an even more modern life in O-Town, where coffee shops are on every corner, food trucks offer multi-layered tacos, touch-screen O-Phones are being upgraded on a near-constant basis, an instant-print kiosk has replaced Rocko's old job at Kind-of-a-Lot-O-Comics, and radioactive energy drinks turn their consumers into mutants. Unbelievable (Netflix, September 13) - Inspired by real events, a teen reports and eventually recants her reported rape, while two female detectives, states away, investigate evidence that could reveal the truth. Based on The Marshall Project and ProPublica Pulitzer Prize-winning article, "An Unbelievable Story of Rape," written by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong, and the This American Life radio episode, “Anatomy of Doubt”, with episodes directed by Oscar nominees Susannah Grant and Lisa Cholodenko, Unbelievable is a story of unspeakable trauma, unwavering tenacity, and astounding resilience. The Society: Season 2 (Netflix, Coming in 2020) - Follows a group of teenagers who are mysteriously transported to a facsimile of their wealthy New England town, left without any trace of their parents. As they struggle to figure out what has happened to them and how to get home, they must establish order and form alliances if they want to survive. The series is a modern take on Lord of the Flies. The Man in the High Castle: Season 4 (Amazon Prime Video, November 15) - The final season of The Man in the High Castle will be rocked by war and revolution. The Resistance becomes a full-blown rebellion, driven by Juliana Crain's (Alexa Davalos) visions of a better world. As empires teeter, Chief Inspector Takeshi Kido (Joel De La Fuente) will find himself torn between his duty to his country and the bonds of family. The Expanse: Season 4 (Amazon Prime Video, December 13) - With the Ring Gates now open to thousands of new planets, a blood-soaked gold rush begins, igniting new conflicts between Earth, Mars, and the Belt. Meanwhile, on one unexplored planet, the Rocinante crew gets caught in a violent clash between an Earth mining corporation and desperate Belter settlers as deadly new threats from the protomolecule emerge. Jawline (Hulu, August 23) - Liza Mandelup's feature debut, Jawline follows 16-year-old Austyn Tester, a rising star in the live-broadcast ecosystem who built his following on wide-eyed optimism and teen girl lust, as he tries to escape a dead-end life in rural Tennessee. - A current Netflix subscription starts at $13 per month for HD streaming and $16 per month for Ultra HD streaming. - A current Amazon Prime subscription costs $119 per year or $13 per month. Likewise, Prime Instant Video is available as a standalone service for $9 per month. - A current Hulu subscription starts at $6 per month with commercials. In addition, ad-free playback is available for $12 per month and Live TV bundle is available for $45. - A current DC Universe Subscription costs $8 per month or $75 billed annually. The firmware update is now rolling out to compatible displays in 140 countries. AirPlay 2 support enables LG 2019 ThinQ TVs to stream content from iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices. Separate AirPlay 2-compatible speakers can also be used for audio playback. Meanwhile, with HomeKit support, users can now control their compatible LG TVs via the Apple Home app or Siri on Apple devices. How to Make Sure You Don't Lose Your Digital Library When UltraViolet Closes on 7/31As previously reported, UltraViolet is officially closing on July 31. The digital locker system was designed to redeem and link digital copies from numerous studios to various online retailers, enabling playback from a variety of devices. But while the end of UltraViolet might present an inconvenience for current users, the platform's termination DOES NOT mean that users have to lose their hard-earned digital libraries. In fact, in most cases, customers can retain all of their currently redeemed and purchased digital copies even after UV closes up shop. That is, so long as they ensure that a few simple steps have been followed. How to Keep Your UltraViolet Titles For most UltraViolet users, ensuring that your digital titles remain accessible will require you to simply sit back and do nothing. As long as you've had your UV account linked to VUDU and/or FandangoNOW, and you keep your UV account open and linked to those services, you're basically set to keep your content through those retailers. But, if you're not sure whether your account is properly linked up, we've got you covered with a quick guide. [teaser]Here's a few steps you can take to make sure your digital library is ready for UltraViolet's end[/teaser]: Sign into your UltraViolet account at myuv.com. Check to see if your account is already linked to an existing VUDU and/or FandangoNOW account at myuv.com/retailers. If your UltraViolet account is already linked to an existing VUDU or FandangoNOW account, simply make sure that you DO NOT UNLINK your UV account to those services. If your UltraViolet account is not already linked to a VUDU or FandangoNOW account, follow the instructions at myuv.com/retailers to link them together (you may need to create a VUDU or FandangoNOW account if you don't have one). Customers who also use ParamountMovies for digital copy playback should also ensure that ParamountMovies remains linked to UltraViolet as functionality for that platform is changing. CLICK HERE for more details and instructions. As long as your UV account remains open and linked to your VUDU and/or FandangoNOW account, most, if not all, of your existing UV titles will remain accessible through those services following UltraViolet's closure. UltraViolet recommends linking to both retailers to maximize availability of titles. In rare cases, some previously redeemed UV titles might not be available if VUDU or FandangoNOW don't carry them. Existing, unused UV codes should also still remain redeemable via VUDU and FandangoNOW after UV's closure for playback via the retailer you redeem them with. Migrating to Movies Anywhere And now that you've ensured that your UV library won't disappear come July 31, there's actually another step you can take to expand availability of your titles even more. To do this, you simply need to sync your VUDU and/or FandangoNOW account up to a Movies Anywhere account. Like UltraViolet, Movies Anywhere is a digital locker system that can link to a variety of retailers, allowing users to redeem and access their supported digital titles across numerous services. The retailers currently supported include VUDU, FanangoNOW, iTunes Amazon, Xfinity (for Xfinity TV subscribers only), Google Play/YouTube, and Microsoft Movies. Meanwhile, studios currently participating include Disney, Sony Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Universal. Here's how to get started with Movies Anywhere: Check out moviesanywhere.com/signup to create a Movies Anywhere account if you don't already have one. After creating an account, simply follow the site's instructions to sync it with your existing VUDU and/or FandangoNOW account. Likewise, you can also sync Movies Anywhere to any other supported retailers you have an account with. When that's all done, all of your Movies Anywhere digital titles, including supported VUDU and/or FandangoNOW content that was carried over from UltraViolet, will now be accessible across the entire Movies Anywhere ecosystem. With that said, there are two notable caveats to that last point that users should be aware of: Some studios that previously supported UltraViolet, like Paramount and Lionsgate, do not currently support Movies Anywhere. This means that while you will still be able to access those titles via your UV linked VUDU and FandangoNOW accounts, titles from those studios will not sync to other Movies Anywhere retailers. Movies Anywhere does not currently support TV shows. Again, shows from your UV library that remained linked to your VUDU and FandangoNOW accounts will remain viewable via those services, but they will not sync to other Movies Anywhere retailers. While all of this is admittedly a bit of chore to get sorted out and setup, the end of UltraViolet and the continued expansion of Movies Anywhere should simplify and streamline the digital copy redemption and playback process in the long run. If Paramount and Lionsgate eventually sign on, and TV shows are added to the mix, Movies Anywhere has the potential to fulfill the promise that UltraViolet could never quite live up to -- resulting in a truly unified digital copy platform that hopefully avoids UV's tragic fate.Posted Wed Jul 24, 2019 at 01:14 PM PDT by: -

Hands On First Look: Sony A7R IV Mirrorless Digital Camera[teaser]Sony's newest full-frame mirrorless camera model has been revealed.[/teaser] Earlier this week, Sony unveiled the latest addition to its lineup of A7R cameras, the A7R IV. Designed to offer the quality of a medium format camera while maintaining the comparatively light and convenient form factor of a full-frame (35mm) Alpha system, the new A7R IV offers an impressive set of features in a compact mirrorless body. Under the hood, the camera is powered by the world's first 61 MP full-frame CMOS image sensor, and includes support for 10fps continuous shooting with AF/AE, Sony's impressive real-time Eye AF for stills and movies, and 4K video recording. Likewise, the device offers an improved grip over previous models, along with several other key design tweaks, enhanced productivity and connectivity options, a digital audio interface, and more -- all for an MSRP of $3,499. Here's a full rundown of key specs: 61MP full-frame CMOS image sensor 26MP in APS-C crop mode 5.76M dot UXGA OLED Viewfinder 10 fps continuous shooting with AF / AE tracking 15-stops of dynamic range 5.5-stop 5-axis In-body Image Stabilization 567 phase-detection AF points 425 contrast-detection AF points 74% frame coverage in full-frame / 100% coverage in APS-C crop Real-time Eye AF for humans & animals Real-time Eye AF for still images & movie recording Real-time Tracking AF 4K movie recording 6K oversampled, edge-to-edge in full-frame full-pixel readout in APS-C crop mode S-Log 2/3 & HLG Multi-Interface Shoe with Digital Audio Interface Dual UHS-II SD card slots USB-C & upgraded Wi-Fi (2.4 & 5 GHz) And though the A7R IV isn't set to start shipping until September 12, Sony was kind enough to offer a demo of the camera at a recent press event in NYC, allowing us to take a few shots with Sony-provided sets, models, and lighting environments. In person, the improved grip offered a secure feel in hand and the device featured an overall sturdy but still relatively lightweight form factor. Buttons and dials were responsive and menu navigation was pretty seamless. The 3.0" rear tilting touchscreen LCD also looked lovely and the newly improved 5.76m-dot resolution UXGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF provided a gorgeous view. Using the camera's Eye Tracking feature, auto-focus performance was great during the demo shoot. Though a few shots could look a hair out of focus when reviewing images at full-res after the event, the tech did a fantastic job of regularly maintaining focus points on human subjects' eyes. Likewise, beyond human subjects, the camera's Animal Eye Tracking also worked great with a dog, correctly finding focus points on the canine's face while ignoring the human standing next to him. With that said, the feature didn't work as well for a parrot and snake also on hand at the shoot, but an update to expand support to more animals is in the works. Additional features like 10fps continuous capture and 4K 24fps recording with Real Time Eye AF support also worked nicely during the event, allowing us to capture large bursts of images and record videos with focus maintained on the subject's face. Though we'll need more time with the camera to really evaluate how well the video AF performs in a less controlled environment, based on our initial demo, the feature looks like a great addition for vloggers and videographers. The Sony A7R IV is now available for pre-order via B&H Photo-Video and Amazon for a current list price of $3,498. Shipments are expected to begin September 12. For more detailed impressions of the A7R IV, CLICK HERE to check out our full write-up on our sister site, Steve's Digicams.
