Beware the New Netflix Phishing Scam[teaser]If you see it, don't click it, and immediately delete it. If you did click it, start changing those passwords. [/teaser] There's a new email that's been going out to Netflix subscribers, but it's not the kind of email you'll want to open. It's a Phishing attempt that's trying to get a hold of your email, password and other personal information. The subject of the email comes as "Your Account Has Been Suspended," and for all the world it looks like a legitimate Netflix email, complete with the red logo and border familiar to the brand. If you click the link, it takes you to a site that looks an awful lot like Netflix too, but it's not Netflix. The dummy site is designed to make you type in your email address, password and other personal information. Once the makers have that information, they can do plenty with it. If you did click on the link in the email, make sure you jump on to the real Netflix site - and the rest of the accounts you have online - and change your password. Depending what information you provided the phishers with, you may also want to keep an eye on your bank account for illegitimate charges. Oppo Reveals the BDP-95 Audiophile Blu-ray Player[teaser]It's set for a February release, but the price is still a mystery. [/teaser] Now that the BDP-93 is out the door, Oppo has announced their newest creation - The BDP-95. It's an impressive player with the kind of features you'd expect from a product aimed directly towards audiophiles. It boasts the Sabre32 Reference Audio DAC - the best in the world according to Oppo - for the highest possible range and lowest distortion. The BDP-95 has a toroidal power supply, XLR stereo outs, 7.1 channel analog outs, a new chassis and other upgrades to the BDP-93. There's no word on pricing yet, but we're guessing it's going to be high. When a company stamps the word "audiophile" on a product it means you're getting the best sound you can get, but it also means you're going to be paying well for it. You can register on Oppo's site now to receive notification when the BDP-95 is available for purchase. Oppo says you can expect it in February of next year. Streaming Services Not Available on TiVos From Cable Companies[teaser]Planning on a TiVo Premiere from your cable company? You might want to think twice. [/teaser] The TiVo Premiere isn't a revolutionary device, but it's still a great DVR that offers plenty of options including access to Hulu Plus and Netflix streaming services. That is, assuming you didn't get it from your cable company. The issue was first noticed by customers of Suddenlink cable, who has been shipping out TiVo Premieres without availability to the two major streaming services. Apparently both Hulu and Netflix are unable to deliver content to DVRs supplied by cable companies. It's a huge blow to customers who are expecting this content, but it's hard to say who to blame. No one looks good in this. TiVo boasts access to services that it can't deliver, Suddenlink provides the less capable DVRs to customers and puts the blame on both Netflix and Hulu. Acapella Reveals the Ultra High-End Violincello Loudspeaker[teaser]It's a great looking speaker with a massless tweeter. It's also 80 grand for a pair. [/teaser] The Violincello isn't the kind of loudspeaker you'll find in most homes. It's something very different. Sure, you won't find another speaker that looks like it, but it's not the aesthetics that set the Violincello apart. It's not the dynamically adjusting woofers or the incredibly quick mid-range horn unit. It's the tweeter. Instead of using a cone made of aluminum, silk or any of the countless materials normally found in a tweeter, Acapella uses the air itself. The ion tweeter uses a special transducer to create a high voltage arc which ionizes the air to produce sound. It's very different and very exciting. The folks at Acapella say that you'll get the clearest and most faithful high frequency reproduction thanks to their tweeter design. If you're so inclined, you can pick up the Violincello now for $80,500 from authorized dealers. Source: eCousticsPosted Tue Dec 21, 2010 at 09:00 AM PST by: -
LG Will Focus on Smart TVs, Phones and Tablets in 2011[teaser]They're investing more than ever in those key businesses, and hoping for big results. [/teaser] When a person announces a New Year's resolution, they're not exactly expected to stick with it. When a company publicly announces their plans for a new year, the expectations are much higher. LG's New Year's resolution is to improve its standings in key electronics categories , which include connected TVs and 3D TVs. They'll be investing a massive $18 billion - their biggest ever - into TVs, smartphones and tablets. This huge investment from LG should create a much more competitive LCD market, and certainly represents a strong possibility of new tech from the Korean company. Panasonic's New TV Records HD Shows to SD Cards[teaser]It's hitting Japan in February, but there's no word on a stateside release. [/teaser] Japan seems to be getting all the great stuff when it comes to recording TV. They can use their PS3s as DVRs and they've got TVs with Blu-ray recorders built right in. It never seems to come our way though. The latest innovation that we're probably not going to see in the US any time soon is the Panasonic TH-L42G3, which lets you record full HD content onto an SD card. You can use SD, SDHC or SDXC cards, the latter of which can go up to 64GB. That 64GB gets you plenty of recording time too. Panasonic says you'll get around five full hours of content at a 24Mbps bit rate. The TH-L42G3 will be available to Japanese customers in February at a price of $1,800. Vizio's 65 Inch Passive 3D TV Hits Stores This Month[teaser]For $3,500 you'll never have to worry about recharging your glasses again. [/teaser] There are plenty of reasons people give for not wanting 3D and the glasses complaint is a big one. "Why can't I just use the glasses I got when I saw Toy Story?" they ask. The incompatibility between different sets is a problem too. For technology to be adapted, it should really just work. Vizio's new set offers a new option. Rather than having to deal with active glasses, the XVT3D650SV will let you use the same passive glasses you get from the movie theater. That means adding a few extra pairs of glasses is as cheap as it gets. The XVT3D650SV is an edge lit TV with 32 zones for smart-dimming. It also boasts a controller with a QWERTY remote for navigating Vizio's online apps and built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi so you won't have to connect cords. Vizio's new TV will be available in Costco and Sam's Club later this month at an MSRP of $3,499. Source: eCousticsPosted Mon Dec 20, 2010 at 09:00 AM PST by:
