LG Implementing AllJoyn Technology in Smart TVs[teaser]With AllJoyn support, LG Smart TVs will offer advanced communication with various mobile devices. [/teaser] LG has announced that it plans to implement AllJoyn technology in its Smart TVs. The opensource software was developed by Qualcomm Innovation Center, Inc, and will allow LG Smart TVs to communicate and integrate with AllJoyn supported tablets, smartphones, and other devices regardless of their operating system or manufacturer. "LG is at the forefront of the device connectivity revolution," said Richard Choi, Senior Vice President of the Smart Business Center at LG Electronics. "LG will now enable consumers to more effortlessly connect their networked devices in the home and continues to show a strong commitment to the next generation of convergence technology." Currently, connectivity between cross-platform devices from different companies using different operating systems can be limited or impossible, but the AllJoyn software promises seamless communication between devices and apps across multiple operating systems and brands. For example, users will be able to play the same game on their LG Smart TV using multiple smartphones and tablets that are running different operating systems. "LG sees great potential and huge possibilities in connecting multiple display products with one TV," added LG's Mr. Choi. "Facilitating true smart home convergence, LG Smart TVs will now be able to seamlessly connect to devices regardless of brand or OS, a first-of-its-kind milestone in the home entertainment industry." Universal to Donate Portion of Proceeds from FAST 6 to Paul Walker's Charity[teaser]Part of the proceeds of every home video purchase of the latest film in the Fast and Furious franchise will be donated to the late actor's charity Reach Out Worldwide. [/teaser] Universal Pictures today announced that a percentage of proceeds from the upcoming home entertainment release of Fast & Furious 6 will be donated to Paul Walker’s non-profit Reach Out WorldWide, a network of professionals with first responder skill-sets who augment local expertise when natural disasters strike in order to accelerate relief efforts. Walker founded the organization after witnessing deficiencies in local activations following the January 2010 Haiti earthquake, and he remained passionately devoted to the charity. “With the passing of Paul, the world has lost a man who spent a great deal of his life in service to others. We share in the deep grief of his family, friends and the countless fans who love him,” said Donna Langley, Chairman, Universal Pictures. “We keep Paul’s memory alive and honor his legacy through continued support of Reach Out WorldWide, the non-profit he founded to give hope to those who must rebuild after they have experienced natural disasters.” Paul Walker’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations be made to support Paul’s charity. To learn more about the efforts of Reach Out WorldWide or make a direct donation, please visit www.roww.org. Fast & Furious 6 will be available in North America on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and On Demand on December 10, 2013.Posted Wed Dec 4, 2013 at 10:00 AM PST by: -

Do Consumers Prefer Smart TVs over Jewelry as Gifts?[teaser]A new survey reveals just how much American consumers are willing to spend on gifts this holiday season and what items they are most likely to spend that cash on. [/teaser] According to a new survey of more than 1000 Americans conducted by Ebiquity and LG, 58 percent of consumers are likely to give televisions as a gift. The survey also reveals a few more interesting bits about consumers' buying and gifting habits for the 2013 holiday season. 39 percent of consumers are willing to spend more than $1000 on a single gift, and 50 percent are likely to share the price of gifts more expensive than $545. Perhaps most telling of all though, is the fact that 52 percent of Americans said that they would rather receive an 84-inch 4K smart TV over an equivalently priced piece of jewelery or a watch. That number dropped a bit when consumers were asked to choose between a smart TV and a trip to Europe, however, with 42 percent opting for a TV. Below is an infographic detailing more of the results.
