Amazon Reveals April 7 Premiere Date for 'American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story'[teaser]The docuseries about the Playboy founder will start streaming next month.[/teaser] Amazon has announced a release date for its upcoming original show, 'American Playboy: The Hugh Hefner Story.' The 10-episode documentary series will premiere through Prime Video on April 7. In addition, episode one will be available to stream for free on Playboy.com on April 7 through April 13. "At a time when civil rights are more in the news than ever, Prime members will be delighted to learn more about the Playboy brand and its contributions in that area," said Conrad Riggs, Head of Unscripted, Amazon Originals. "This series will offer the unprecedented, behind-the-scenes story of Hefner’s life and his fight to protect and advance essential American rights, including free speech." Produced by the Emmy Award-winning Stephen David Entertainment and Alta Loma Entertainment, American Playboy begins in post-war America and takes us through the launch of Playboy magazine in 1953 and the next six decades of Hefner’s life and career. As he built his empire, Hefner became both a social justice advocate and a target of the conservative movement while becoming an outspoken defender of civil rights, freedom of speech, gay rights and, of course, sexual freedom. The series is the result of unprecedented access to thousands of hours of never-before-seen footage from both Hefner’s and the Playboy archives and Hefner’s personal scrapbooks, which number more than 2,900 and constitute a Guinness World Record. The 90-year-old Hefner has been deeply involved in the development and production of American Playboy, imbuing the series with rich first-person accounts and never-before-told stories. A current Amazon Prime subscription costs $99 per year or $11 per month. Likewise, Prime Instant Video is available as a standalone service for $9 per month. Unrated Cut of Ken Russell's Controversial 'The Devils' Hits Shudder Streaming Service[teaser]The controversial flick is now available to stream in an unrated cut.[/teaser] Shudder has announced the addition of the 109-minute unrated cut of director Ken Russell's 'The Devils' to its streaming lineup. Due to its controversial subject matter, the movie has usually only been available in censored edits for many previous theatrical and home releases. In 17th century France, hunchbacked nun Sister Jeanne (Vanessa Redgrave) lusts after the town's priest Father Grandier (Oliver Reed), a sinful but ultimately just man. But when the priest marries, jealous Jeanne accuses Grandier of using witchcraft on her convent, and the other nuns play along, behaving as obscenely as possible. Ken Russell's savage portrait of religious hypocrisy earned the film the top spot on the list of most controversial horror films ever made - and an X rating. Available on streaming for the first time ever in the US, THE DEVILS is essential viewing. Though not the full uncut 117-minute version, this 109-minute unrated edit serves as one of the most complete cuts of the film currently available. Filmmaker Ken Russell is also known for directing 'Tommy,' 'Altered States,' and 'Crimes of Passion.' Here's a rundown of the platform per the Shudder website: Shudder has something for everyone, from the casual fan to the hardcore horror devotee.
