While no firms launch date has been announced for the expanded Alexa support, Hulu has announced a fall release window for the update, which will make the streaming service one of the first 3rd-party entertainment platforms to support Alexa. With Alexa voice support for Hulu via the Fire TV, customers will be able to use their Alexa voice remotes to find, launch, and control content on Hulu app. Likewise, users will also be able to pair their Fire TV to an Echo device to enable hands-free, far-field voice control for several actions, including pause, rewind, fast-forward. The show stars Will Arnett as the voice of BoJack, the failed legendary ‘90s sitcom star from the favorite family sitcom Horsin’ Around, who has been trying to find his way through a muddle of self-loathing, whisky and failed relationships. Red Oaks: Season 3 (Amazon Prime Video, October 20) - A coming-of-age comedy set in the "go-go" 80s about a college student enjoying a last hurrah before summer comes to an end--and the future begins. In season three, Summer '87 finds David in the Big Apple, working at a video production company, and striking out with the ladies of New York. Luckily he's got roommate Wheeler to help cheer him up. Meanwhile Nash brings an incarcerated Getty news of a threat to the future of their beloved Red Oaks. Meanwhile, Hulu has announced the addition of Sean Penn to the cast of The First. The upcoming original series is a co-production between Hulu and Channel 4, and comes from creator and executive producer by Beau Willimon (House of Cards, Ides of March). Set in the near future, The First will follow the first human mission to Mars exploring the challenges of taking the first steps toward interplanetary colonization. The story focuses not only on the astronauts, but also on their families and loved ones, as well as the ground team on Earth. "I have such deep admiration for Sean’s immense talent and extraordinary body of work," said Willimon. "I feel very lucky to be collaborating with an artist of his caliber." The First is set to start streaming through Hulu in 2018. In addition, Hulu has also announced a new deal with NBCUniversal Television. As part of the agreement, Hulu is now the exclusive SVOD home to all episodes of 30 Rock and the first eight seasons of Will & Grace. The update is set to be available by the end of December. Dolby Vision is an advanced display and image mastering technology that offers expanded brightness to improve contrast between dark and light aspects of an image, bringing out deeper black levels and more realistic details in specular highlights -- like the sun reflecting off of an ocean -- in specially graded Dolby Vision material. BenQ Releases LK970 4K Laser Projector[teaser]A new Ultra HD projector has been detailed.[/teaser] BenQ has announced its newest projector model. The upcoming LK970 4K Laser Projector is geared toward use for large-venue applications, home cinemas, and living rooms. "With our LK970, we've combined 4K with our powerful BlueCore laser engine to raise the bar on brightness performance and installation flexibility," said Johnny Huang, projector product manager at BenQ America Corp. "The result is an incredibly clear, bright and vibrant picture for a variety of environments. The picture quality is so impressive, even in ambient light, that not only can it be used as an incredible home theater centerpiece but also in challenging pro AV scenarios, including commercial simulations, digital imaging, mapping and immersive gallery displays." The projector uses BenQ's BlueCore Laser technology along with Texas Instruments' latest DLP 4K UHD DMD chip with 2716 x 1528 (4.15 million) micromirrors and a dual color wheel. The upcoming collection includes the HDB-RX1 4K HDBaseT Receiver; DRC-R1.1 11.2-Channel Network A/V Controller; DRX-R1.1 11.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver, and the DRX-7.1 9.2-Channel Network A/V Receiver. The new Dot 1 Series AV receivers and controller all offer support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-based audio formats, along with Chromecast built-in/Google Assistant voice control, DTS Play-Fi multi-room tech, and 4K HDR passthrough with Dolby Vision compliancy. McIntosh Reveals MHA50 Portable Decoding Amplifier with $700 MSRP[teaser]The amplifier is designed to improve the quality of portable music through headphones.[/teaser] McIntosh has announced its latest audio component. The new MHA50 Portable Decoding Amplifier is set to start shipping in October for a suggested retail price of $700. The amplifier features a sleek and light-weight design built primarily from durable extruded aluminum with a form factor similar to a smartphone. A glass front panel with a touch sensitive volume control knob reminiscent of the classic McIntosh knob found on several of the company's other products is integrated as well. Under the hood, the MHA50 uses a high-performance 32-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC), improving playback quality from almost any digital source. Likewise, the unit supports 32-bit/192kHz hi-res audio, DSD256 and DXD384 files, and asynchronous USB audio. LG Set to Integrate Comcast Xfinity Cable Access into 2017 & 2018 webOS Smart TVs[teaser]Xfinity users with select LG displays will soon be able to ditch their cable boxes.[/teaser] Comcast and LG have announced the addition of LG to the Xfinity Partner Program. So, without further ado, here's a rundown of some of the latest gear and tech news: Netflix Launches Dolby Vision Streaming on New iPhone Models Netflix has announced the addition of mobile Dolby Vision HDR (high dynamic range) streaming playback for the Apple iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, and iPad Pro (2nd generation). The new devices join the LG G6 as the only mobile products to currently support Dolby Vision through Netflix. Beyond Dolby Vision, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, LG V30, Sony Xperia XZ1, and Sony Xperia XZ Premium all support HDR10 Netflix playback. In order to watch Dolby Vision streaming content on the newly supported mobile devices, users will need the latest Netflix app and the newest version of iOS. Likewise, subscribers will need the premium $12 per month Netflix plan. Dolby Vision is an advanced display and image mastering technology that offers expanded brightness to improve contrast between dark and light aspects of an image, bringing out deeper black levels and more realistic details in specular highlights -- like the sun reflecting off of an ocean -- in specially graded Dolby Vision material. The iPhone 8 features a 4.7-inch widescreen LCD IPS Multi-Touch Retina display with a resolution of 1334x750, 326 ppi, wide color, and 1400:1 a contrast ratio. Meanwhile, the iPhone 8 plus features a 5.5-inch widescreen LCD IPS Multi-Touch Retina HD display with a resolution of 1920x1080, 401 ppi, and a 1300:1 contrast ratio. Finally, the iPhone X features a Super Retina HD 5.8-inch all-screen OLED Multi-Touch display with a resolution of 2436x1125-pixel, 458 ppi, wide color, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 625 cd/m2 max brightness. Under the hood, all three models are powered by an A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture, Neural Engine, and an Embedded M11 motion coprocessor. Dolby Vision, and HDR10 playback are all supported as well, along with 4K video recording and optimization for augmented reality. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are available now in the US with prices starting at $699. The iPhone X will launch on November 3 with prices starting at $999. Previously, the device was available at a starting price of $200 with a gaming controller and remote, but now the company is set to offer a $179 option that only includes the remote. The Shield TV features support for up to 4K HDR playback at 60 FPS, along with Dolby Atmos and DTS-X surround sound pass through over HDMI and high-resolution audio playback up to 24-bit/192 kHz over HDMI and USB. Under the hood, the device is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra X1 processor with a 256-core GPU and 3 GB RAM running Android 7.0. Supported services include Amazon, Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Movies, VUDU, Plex, and more. In addition, the system offers robust gaming capabilities, voice search, and several AI functions. The new 16GB NVIDIA Shield TV Remote Only Edition is now available for pre-order for $179 with an expected ship date of October 18. Meanwhile, the 16GB Shield TV with remote and gaming controller is available for $200, and the 500GB Shield TV Pro model is available for $300. The new UI features support for creating personal profiles along with improved navigation features, including Home, My Stuff, Browse, and Search categories. Meanwhile, the Hulu with Live TV beta costs $40 per month and combines a live/on-demand TV service with Hulu's standard streaming collection. The Live service includes access to content from ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, with local live broadcast affiliate programming immediately available in many markets; live sporting events from top pro and college leagues on channels like CBS Sports, ESPN, Fox Sports, NBC Sports and TNT; regional sports networks in many markets; news channels like CNN, CNBC, Fox News, Fox Business and MSNBC; lifestyle programming from Bravo, E!, Food Network, HGTV and Travel Channel; additional networks like A&E, Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, Disney Channel, Freeform, FX, HISTORY, Lifetime, National Geographic, TBS, USA Network, Viceland, and more. Likewise, Live TV subscribers also get to enjoy Hulu's existing $8 premium streaming plan with limited commercials and more than 3500 TV and film titles.
