Onkyo’s iLunar Sound System Promises 3D Sound from Stereo Sources[teaser]The company has teamed up with Sonic Emotion to provide the technology that allows for the feature. [/teaser] The folks at Onkyo are getting ready to launch a new sound system that they’re calling iLunar. What sets iLunar apart is its ability to take stereo sound and give you the illusion of a full 3D audio experience, surrounding you with music. This is accomplished using technology from Sonic Emotion, which started out developing sound tech for large venues but has since managed to scale down their techniques for consumer markets. “We are delighted to release the new iLunar, which was jointly developed with Sonic Emotion,” says Onkyo CTO Nobuaki Okuda. “We believe we can continue to provide a dynamic listening experience to customers with our iLunar, which features Absolute 3D sound technology.” Source: OnkyoPosted Thu Aug 23, 2012 at 09:31 AM PDT by: -
LG’s 84 Inch 4K TV Shipping Now in Korea – Coming to US Next Month[teaser]In addition to the high resolution picture, the TV packs 3D capabilities and a 2.2 channel speaker system. [/teaser] LG’s new 84LM9600 would be impressive if it were simply an 84 inch 3D HDTV. We’d be more than willing to drool over the picture and sheer size of this beast, but there’s even more to it than that. LG’s set boasts an Ultra High Definition resolution – 3,840 by 2,160. 3D fans will be able to take advantage of the high resolution to get a 1080p picture while still using passive technology 3D. Of course, you’ll want a native 4K source to experience this, but an upscaling receiver will get you close enough to notice the difference. The TV also boasts a 2.2 channel speaker system, with a pair of 10 watt speakers paired with 15 watt woofers. You know, just in case you had to sell your speakers to swing the price of the 84LM9600. Warner Extends Digital Copies for Most Discs Until 2017[teaser]For most of your movies, the expiration on digital copy redemption is essentially gone. [/teaser] Getting a digital copy of the movie you purchased on disc is pretty slick, unless it turns out that you missed the window of opportunity to use your code to redeem your copy. Luckily, that won’t be a problem with most Warner titles, or at least it won’t be for five years or so. Warner has, without making a grand announcement about the change, extended the expiration date of the codes for most of their movies to 2017, ensuring that you have plenty of time to get your digital copy. This doesn’t apply to all discs, but it seems to apply to most. At this time, Warner has not commented officially or released a list of which titles were and were not extended. Croon Launches a Slick New Bluetooth Speaker[teaser]It sports a unique look, stylish finishes and a Class D amp. [/teaser] Croon’s new The Original speaker has a very specific purpose. It’s designed for the single purpose of streaming music via Bluetooth from your tablet, phone or MP3 player. It packs a Class D amplifier that provides 15 watts each to a pair of 2.5” full-range drivers. There are some benefits of being Bluetooth only that more complete solutions don’t offer. For example, you won’t find a single button on The Original. All controls are handled by your tablet or phone, including volume – this allows for a more streamlined audio circuit. The Original features an 8mm thick MDF housing, which is available in four different colors, though pricing varies depending on which you want. The base model is available in black at $199. Grey and white run $229 while red comes in at $235. Source: eCousticsPosted Mon Aug 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM PDT by: -
Free Movie Streaming from Crackle Comes to Nook – on the Way to Kindle Fire[teaser]The iOS versions of the service have been updated too, with a cleaner interface and HDMI/AirPlay TV Playback. [/teaser] Crackle isn’t the most popular movie streaming service out there and it’s a bit lacking in terms of quality, but the price is just right – free. There are a good chunk of movies available to watch and now that’s been extended to Nook users, though not those that use a Nook Color. If your tablet of choice is the Kindle Fire, you’ll be happy to know that a free Crackle app is on its way to you too, though a specific date has yet to be announced. iOS users already have the app, but get an update that makes the interface prettier and easier to use. The update also includes the ability to use AirPlay to send their content to an enabled device. Source: EngadgetPosted Mon Aug 20, 2012 at 09:00 AM PDT by: -

Genelec Launches a Speaker Angle Configuation App for iOS[teaser]The app finds the exact right angles for your speakers, eliminating the guess work. [/teaser] Some people are content to set up their speakers once, assume everything’s fine and just kick back and enjoy. Others of us are tweakers – the type of people who keep making tiny adjustments to find the exact right placement. Genelec has released an app called SpeakerAngle to help out with that. The app works simply. Select your setup and then place the phone on top of the speaker you want to align. SpeakerAngle will tell you how far to turn the speaker and stop you when you’ve reached the right point. There’s also an included tutorial to make sure you’re getting it just right. You can pick up the app on iTunes at a price of $0.99.Posted Fri Aug 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM PDT by: -
Rumor: Coinstar is Negotiating a Buyout[teaser]According to sources of The Post, the negotiations with a private equity firm are getting pretty serious. [/teaser] Redbox has been doing incredibly well since it first launched, and the upcoming streaming partnership with Verizon has people excited – particularly one private equity firm that may end up buying the company. According to The Post, the folks at Coinstar are in serious talks with a private equity firm. This doesn’t mean they’ll be selling necessarily, but it’s an indicator that the possibility is there. Of course, if the firm doesn’t end up picking up Coinstar, there are a few companies who would certainly benefit from the acquisition. Just as with Hulu and Netflix sales rumors, analysts are calling for Amazon to pick up the company. Source: New York PostPosted Fri Aug 17, 2012 at 09:00 AM PDT by: -
