The company is releasing an HDR software update for select TVs.
Sony has announced plans to bring high dynamic range support to more of its Ultra HD TVs. HDR compatibility will be added to several 2015 4K displays via an upcoming network update.
"Sony is pleased to be expanding HDR compatibility for our 4K Ultra HD televisions. Sony has always been a leader in HDR, from our HDR-enabled professional cameras, to Sony Pictures produced and edited HDR content, to our expanded line of HDR compatible TVs, only Sony can bring you the full HDR viewing experience from the lens to the living room." said Motoi Kawamura, General Manager for TV Product Planning and Marketing in Europe.
High dynamic range displays and content offer greater brightness and contrast levels, allowing for superior details in highlights and shadows. HDR support is already integrated into the XBR-75X940C and XBR-65X930C, and support will be added to the XBR-75X910C, XBR-65X900C, XBR-55X900C, XBR-75X850C, XBR-65X850C, and XBR-55X850C through a software update. Likewise, Sony is working with streaming services like Amazon Instant Video to offer HDR content on its TVs.
An exact release date for the HDR network update has not been announced, but the upgrade will arrive before the end of the year.
