"Can you dig it?"

Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have released the first trailer for Shaft. The action comedy film comes from director Tim Story (Ride Along, Think Like a Man) and is set to hit theaters on June 14.

JJ, aka John Shaft Jr. (Jessie T. Usher), may be a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death, he needs an education only his dad can provide. Absent throughout JJ’s youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft (Samuel L. Jackson) agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem’s heroin-infested underbelly. And while JJ’s own FBI analyst’s badge may clash with his dad’s trademark leather duster, there’s no denying family. Besides, Shaft’s got an agenda of his own, and a score to settle that’s professional and personal.

Check out the official trailer below!

The movie stars Samuel L. Jackson who is reprising his role from 2000's Shaft, along with Jessie T. Usher, Regina Hall, Alexandra Shipp, Matt Lauria, Titus Welliver, Cliff "Method Man" Smith, and Richard Roundtree as the original John Shaft. Kenya Barris (Girls Trip, Black-ish) & Alex Barnow (The Goldbergs) are listed as screenwriters. Tim Story, Ira Napoliello, Kenya Barris, Marc S. Fischer, Richard Brener, and Josh Mack are all on board as executive producers.

This will be the fifth feature-length entry in the Shaft franchise, following Shaft (1971), Shaft's Big Score (1972), Shaft in Africa (1973), and Shaft (2000). In addition, a TV series was also produced in 1973. The character of John Shaft originated from the 1970 novel, Shaft, by Ernest Tidyman.
