The service is now offering IMAX Enhanced playback support.
FandangoNow has announced the addition of its first IMAX Enhanced 4K HDR streaming title with the arrival of Spider: Far From Home. The movie is now available to rent or buy with IMAX Enhanced playback support via the FandangoNow app on select Sony 4K TV models.
IMAX Enhanced content use a proprietary post-production process and an advanced algorithm to provide high-quality 4K HDR images through the accurate reduction of noise and grain under the filmmaker's supervision. Likewise, IMAX Enhanced also uses a special variant of the DTS:X codec for immersive audio with specific adjustments for the home theater based on how the IMAX theatrical sound system operates.
"IMAX Enhanced continues to build on its growing momentum, as new companies throughout the ecosystem seek to offer their consumers the most immersive at-home entertainment experience in the world," said Francisco Navarro-Sertich, senior vice president of strategy at IMAX Corporation and global head of IMAX Enhanced. "By bringing together two pioneering entertainment technology companies in IMAX and DTS, IMAX Enhanced is pushing boundaries and fundamentally changing what consumers expect and demand from home entertainment."
Beyond video and audio enhancements, the IMAX Enhanced version of Spider-Man: Far From Home also features 45 minutes of footage in IMAX's exclusive expanded aspect ratio. IMAX Enhanced support for additional FandangoNow titles, like Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, The Angry Birds Movie 2, and Bumblebee, will also be added soon.
IMAX Enhanced playback is currently supported through a variety of AV devices from manufacturers like Arcam, AudioControl, Denon, Elite, Integra, Lexicon, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony, TCL, and Trinnov.
