Coming Soon to Blu-ray: DOCTOR WHO, ALPHA, and More
A time-traveling doctor, and a boy and his wolf lead the pack of upcoming Blu-rays.
New info has been revealed for several Blu-rays from Sony, Image Entertainments, PBS, Rhino Records, The BBC, Disney, Warner Bros., Flicker Alley, Arbelos Films, and Music Box Films.
Here's a full rundown of recently revealed details and title announcements:
First up, Sony is prepping Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead: Unrated starring Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, and Jessica Lucas for Blu-ray on October 23.The 2-disc set will feature the R-rated and Unrated cuts of the film, and supplements will include:
- Audio Commentary
- Making Life Difficult Featurette
- Directing The Dead Featurette
- Being Mia Featurette
- Unleashing the Evil Force Featurette
- Evil Dead the Reboot Feature
Likewise, the studio is releasing Outlander: Season 3 Ornament Edition starring Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, and Duncan Lacroix on October 23 as well. The limited edition set includes an Exclusive Season Three ornament in a collectible giftbox.
In addition, Albert Hughes' Alpha starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Leonor Varela, and Natassia Malthe will hit Blu-ray on November 13. Supplements will include:
- Alternate Opening and Ending with Commentaries by Director Albert Hughes
- Deleted Scenes with Commentaries by Director Albert Hughes
- “The Wolf Behind Alpha”
- “Boy & Wolf”
- “Building the World”
- “A Hero’s Journey”
Netflix's The Crown: Season Two starring Claire Foy, Matt Smith, Vanessa Kirby, and John Lithgow is also due to arrive on November 13. No supplements are currently listed for the disc.
And rounding out Sony's upcoming lineup will be James Nunn's The Marine 6: Close Quarters starring Mike 'The Miz' Mizanin, Shawn Michaels, and Rebecca Quin on November 13. Supplements will include:
- "Making Maddy & The Marines"
- "The Breakdown: Epic Fights"
Image Entertainments is bringing Panos Cosmatos' Mandy starring Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough, and Linus Roache to Blu-ray on October 30. Supplements will include:
- Behind the Scenes - Featurette
- Deleted & Extended Scenes
PBS has announced plans to release Joss Agnew's Poldark: The Complete Fourth Season starring Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson on November 6. Supplements have not bee detailed yet.
Rhino Records will release Amir Bar-Lev's documentary Long Strange Trip: The Untold Story Of The Grateful Dead on November 9. No other details are currently listed.
The BBC is prepping Alan J.W. Bell's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (1981): Anniversary Edition starring Peter Jones, Simon Jones, and David Dixon for Blu-ray on November 13. Supplements will include:
- Hours of fun extras
Likewise, the studio is bringing Doctor Who: Peter Davison Complete First Season starring Peter Davison to Blu-ray on December 4. The limited edition eight-disc box set will feature all 26 episodes remastered, and special features will include:
- Five new Making-Of documentaries for Castrovalva, Four To Doomsday, Black Orchid, Earthshock and Time-Flight
- Surround sound mixes for Kinda and Earthshock
- An Extended Version of Black Orchid Part One
- Rare studio footage from Castrovalva, Four To Doomsday, Earthshock and Time-Flight
- Updated special effects for Castrovalva
- Seven more editions of Behind The Sofa
- A newly-shot one-hour interview Peter Davison In Conversation with Matthew Sweet
- And much more
In addition, Doctor Who: The Complete Eleventh Series starring Jodie Whittaker is set to hit Blu-ray on January 29, 2019. Supplements have not been revealed yet.
Disney is bringing Pixar Short Films Collection: Volume 3 to Blu-ray on November 13. The collection will feature thirteen short films, including Piper (2016), Sanjay's Super Team (2015), Lou (2017), and more. Supplements will include:
- Bonus Mini-Movie: Marine Life Interviews
- Bonus Mini-Movie: Miss Fritter’s Racing Skoool
Warner Bros. is prepping The 100: The Complete Fifth Season starring Eliza Taylor, Paige Turco, and Bob Morley for Blu-ray on November 13. Supplements have not been announced yet.
Flicker Alley is bringing William Beaudine's Little Annie Rooney starring Mary Pickford, William Haines, and Walter James to Blu-ray on Novemer 13. The disc will feature a new 4K remaster of the film, and supplements will include:
- NEW music score for the film composed by Andy Gladbach
- Booklet featuring rare photographs and essays by Cari Beauchamp
In addition, the label is also prepping James Kirkwood's Fanchon the Cricket starring Mary Pickford, Jack Standing, and Lottie Pickford for Blu-ray on November 13.
Arbelos Films is set to release Dennis Hopper's The Last Movie starring Julie Adams, Daniel Ades, and Richmond L. Aguilar on November 13. The disc will feature a brand new 4K restoration of the film from the original camera negative, and supplements will include:
- Scene Missing (2018), a sixty-minute documentary directed by Alex Cox on the making of THE LAST MOVIE.
- Some Kind of Genius (1987), a thirty-minute documentary portrait of Dennis Hopper directed by Paul Joyce.
- Postcard from Peru (2018), a new series of video interviews with members of the Peruvian crew filmed by Daniel García and Aurelio Medina.
- The Dick Cavett Show 1971 interview with Hopper.
- 2007 video introduction by Dennis Hopper.
- 2018 U.S. Theatrical Trailer.
- 1971 Theatrical Trailer.
- 1971 Product Reel.
- Restoration Demo.
- New essays by Julie Adams, Jessica Hundley and Mike Plante plus a 1971 Evergreen Review report from the set of the film by L.M. Kit Carson.
Music Box Films is prepping Robert Schwentke's The Captain starring Max Hubacher, Milan Peschel, and Frederick Lau for Blu-ray on November 27. Supplements will include:
- Filmmaker Q&A with director Robert Schwentke from Chicago premiere at the Music Box Theatre
- Interview with director Robert Schwentke
- Interviews with cast and crew
- Behind-the-scenes featurettes
- Storyboard-to-Film comparison
