The new 5.7-inch smartphone screen features a Quad HD resolution of 2560x1440.
Taiwanese display manufacturer AUO has unveiled a new 5.7-inch AMOLED panel. With a 1440p screen and 513ppi, the screen is now the world's highest resolution panel of its type.
Other company's such as Oppo, Vivo, and LG, have all been developing their own Quad HD smartphones, but those efforts feature traditional LCD panels. For now, AUO is the first company to officially reveal a Quad HD AMOLED screen, though Samsung is reportedly developing their own as well. AMOLED (active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) panels offer several benefits over standard LCD technology, including superior contrast and deeper blacks. The company also announced a 5-inch HD720 AMOLED screen that is only 0.57mm thick. Likewise, AUO plans to manufacture a 6-inch WQHD panel as well.
Specific smartphone models that will use these new Quad HD and AMOLED displays have not been announced yet.
