The online retailer is giving select customers a free trial of its new streaming media player.
According to a report from Engadget, Amazon is sending out emails to select customers inviting them to try their Fire TV set-top box for free. The offer gives the select Amazon users a 30-day trial of the product with no money upfront. If users aren't satisfied after that time period, then they can return the product free of charge and shipping fees -- so long as the item is still in new condition and adheres to Amazon's returns policy.
The Amazon Fire TV is powered by a Qualcomm Krait 300 quad-core CPU, an Adreno 320 GPU, and 2GB of RAM, all running a version of Android. In addition, the box offers an HDMI output for full 1080p video and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound. An optical out, Ethernet port, USB connection, and Wi-Fi are included as well. The Fire TV supports a wide array of apps and services, including Netflix, Prime Instant Video, Hulu Plus, and WatchESPN, offering over 200,000 movies and TV shows, as well as millions of songs. An advanced voice search feature is implemented too, allowing users to speak directly into the included remote in order to find content. Gaming features are available as well through the optional Amazon Fire Game Controller.
