A new sci-fi action flick from director McG headlines this week's crop of streaming trailers.
Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, CBS All Access, and DC Universe have all released new previews and info for several of their upcoming series and films.
Here's a full rundown of streaming titles scheduled to arrive on each service:
Nailed It!: Season 3 (Netflix, May 17) - Hosted by Nicole Byer and Jacques Torres, home bakers with a terrible track record take a shot at re-creating edible masterpieces for a $10,000 prize. It’s part competition, part hot mess.
Rim of the World (Netflix, May 24) - 2014. Summer camp at Rim of the World has barely begun when four misfit teenagers -- Alex, ZhenZhen, Dariush, and Gabriel -- find they’ve got bigger problems to face than learning how to canoe and climb ropes when aliens suddenly invade the planet. Alone in a campground once teeming with people, the kids are unexpectedly entrusted with a key that carries the secret to stopping the invasion. Without any adults or electronics to help guide the way, it’s clear what they must do: band together, conquer their fears, and save the world. An epic action-adventure directed by McG (Charlie’s Angels).
She’s Gotta Have It: Season 2 (Netflix, May 24) - A seriously sexy comedy and rousing celebration of female empowerment, She’s Gotta Have It Season 2 offers a timely and topical portrait of rising talents, with free-spirited artist Nola Darling (DeWanda Wise) at the center. Struggling with newfound success this season, against a backdrop of black art and culture, Nola must decide if she will remain true to her creative ideals or give in to the corporate world. Her journey of self-discovery helps transform the lives of those around her, including friend and sometimes lover Mars Blackmon (Anthony Ramos), who sets out to pursue his true passion of music as well as her inner circle of Opal (Ilfenesh Hadera), Greer Childs (Cleo Anthony), Jamie Overstreet (Lyriq Bent), Clorinda Bradford (Margot Bingham), Shemekka Epps (Chyna Layne) and Winnie Win (Fat Joe). Their journey expands to new destinations this season beyond their home base of Fort Greene, the vibrant Brooklyn enclave, that continues to evolve and change as gentrification remakes the neighborhood.
High Seas (Netflix, May 24) - A magnificent transatlantic ship full of passengers, travelling from Europe to South America in search of a better future. Two sisters, Eva (Ivana Baquero) and Carolina (Alejandra Onieva), as different as they are inseparable. A handsome officer, Nicolás Sala (Jon Kortajarena), a man that fate has put in the wrong place. A mystery to be solved: the murder of a passenger whose name does not appear in the passenger list and who no one remembers. Love, intrigues and many lies… in a ship that hides a story in each one of its cabins and a dark secret deep inside. There is only one clear thing: The murderer will not be able to leave the ship.
After Maria (Netflix, May 24) - In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria’s catastrophic destruction in 2017, three Puerto Rican women and their families are caught between worlds as their FEMA housing assistance in New York expires. With the threat of homelessness on the horizon, After Maria follows these families as they fight to keep their families together and battle the emotional effects from displacement.
I Am Mother (Netflix, June 7) - A sci-fi thriller about a teenage girl (Clara Rugaard), who is the first of a new generation of humans to be raised by Mother (Rose Byrne), a robot designed to repopulate the earth after the extinction of humankind. But the pair’s unique relationship is threatened when an injured stranger (Hilary Swank) arrives with news that calls into question everything Daughter has been told about the outside world and her Mother’s intentions.
The Twilight Zone (CBS All Access, May 16) - Episode 8, "Point of Origin," stars Ginnifer Goodwin and is hosted by Academy Award winner Jordan Peele. A suburban housewife (Ginnifer Goodwin) wants to go home. But where - and what - is home, really? Zabryna Guevara and James Frain guest star.
Jonas Brothers' Chasing Happiness (Amazon Prime Video, June 4) - From humble roots as pastor’s sons in New Jersey, through their meteoric rise to fame, the Jonas Brothers’ bond was unshakeable—until a surprising and painful breakup led Joe, Kevin and Nick down very different paths. With deeply personal interviews, previously unreleased footage and exclusive music, this is the Jonas Brothers as never seen before.
Absentia: Season 2 (Amazon Prime Video, June 14) - After killing her abductor, former FBI agent Emily Byrne struggles to define her new normal as a mother and a survivor of years of torture. Even while she rebuilds her relationship with her son, Flynn, Emily still cannot shake the darkness of her past. She enlists police detective Tommy Gibbs in an investigation of her history. When the case turns deadly, she risks everything to uncover the truth.
Swamp Thing (DC Universe, May 31) - Follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets. When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe. Based on the DC characters originally written and drawn by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.
