Yamaha Unveils Stereo Receiver with Network Support

The R-N500 is the company's first two-channel receiver to offer streaming features.

Yamaha has announced the release of its R-N500 stereo receiver. The audio component includes network support for a variety of streaming applications and digital media devices.

The R-N500 can connect to networks through an Ethernet connection, an additional Wi-Fi adapter ($99), or an additional Bluetooth adapter ($69). Support for AirPlay is included, offering streaming options for Apple computers, iPhones, and iPads. In addition, the receiver also features DLNA 1.5 and USB, allowing users to play media from PCs, tablets, and other devices. Likewise, Pandora and Spotify Connect options are available as well. There's also a network player controller app for tablets and smartphones for easy operation of streaming media.

"The R-N500 is a connected music hub that provides the exceptional sonic purity and a classic appearance that more than meets the demands of today's audio enthusiasts," said Bob Goedken, general manager, Yamaha Corporation of America, AV Division. "Music of any genre in any format – including CDs, vinyl and high resolution files – is delivered with the best possible sound reproduction."

The amplifier is listed as 80 W + 80 W (0.04% THD), and additional features include a Pure Direct mode that forgoes most audio circuitry for a more authentic sound, and a digital audio input for TVs or Blu-ray players. Playback formats supported by the receiver include MP3, WMA, MPEG4, AAC, WAV, and FLAC.

The R-N500 will be available later this month at authorized Yamaha dealers for a suggested retail price of $600.
