New Marusys Set-tops Stream to iPhones

Posted Apr 20, 2010 at 09:00 AM PDT by Mike Attebery

The latest boxes from Marusys are a modders dream, but iPhone owners may be tempted to pick them up as well.

The M630S and MS850S are the latest set-tops from the company, both of which offer a huge amount of customizability for those with the know-how. They’re not PVRs or DVRs, but decoders that are capable of filling the role.

Thanks to some new chips from Magnum Semiconductor, Marusys was able to expand the capabilities of their set-tops significantly. If you’re a fan of the Linux based XMBC for example, you’ll be able to run it with these set-tops.

They’ve also got WiFi capability, through the use of dongles, which allows them to stream to and from a number of devices, including the iPhone. Streaming is only possible through WiFi though, so don’t expect to check out your recorded content while waiting at the airport.

Marusys has not commented on whether this same streaming is possible on the iPod Touch and iPad, but it seems logical that they would enable it for all three.
