Amazon is the first service to offer HDR streaming content on LG OLED models.
LG has announced the launch of high dynamic range streaming on its line of supported OLED Ultra HD TVs. The current crop of high dynamic range content is being provided through Amazon Instant Video.
"LG is committed to delivering the best viewing experience, and it doesn’t get any better than HDR content on an OLED 4K display," said Tim Alessi, head of new product development, LG Electronics USA. "Amazon has played an invaluable role in helping LG bring consumers the best way to enjoy streaming content and an incredible HDR experience."
High Dynamic Range displays and content provide enhanced levels of brightness and contrast, resulting in more realistic images with greater highlights and more detailed shadows. HDR support will be integrated into the upcoming LG 65EF9500 and 55EF9500 flat-screen OLED Ultra HD TVs. Likewise, HDR support has also recently been added to the 65EG9600 and 55EG9600 curved-screen OLED HD TVs through a firmware upgrade. Currently, Amazon is offering the first season of it original series 'Mozart in the Jungle' and 'Transparent,' along with the pilot episode of 'Red Oaks' in the HDR format.
LG's OLED Ultra HD TVs now meet the CEA guidelines for HDR-Compatible Video Displays. In addition to LG, Amazon also recently launched HDR streaming on select Samsung Ultra HD TVs.
