The legendary filmmaker will create his first TV show ever for Amazon Studios.

Amazon has announced that it has signed Woody Allen to write and direct an original series. The show will premiere exclusively on Amazon's Prime Instant Video streaming service in the US, UK, and Germany next year.

"Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it's an honor to be working with him on his first television series," said Roy Price, Vice President of Amazon Studios. "From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn't be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year."

Details on the show, known now only as 'Untitled Woody Allen Project,' are scare, but more information, including casting will be made available in the future. The series will feature half-hour episodes and Amazon has already put in a full season order. Woody Allen added, "I don't know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I'm not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this."

Amazon Instant Video is available on a variety of smart TVs, game consoles, mobile devices, and streaming players, including the Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire HDX 8.9, Fire Phone and the Roku 3. An Amazon Prime membership currently costs $99 per year, and includes free 2-day shipping, Prime Instant Video, Prime Music, Prime Photos, the Kindle Owners' Lending Library, and more. The company also recently announced a premiere date for its first batch of 2015 original pilots.
